In Which I Say Goodbye to Aunt Trevina

Sometime in the last week or so, I decided to cut one of my characters: my MC's Aunt Trevina.  I liked Aunt Trevina. She had potential. She also had no reason to be in the story. Her sole purpose was one that could easily and more sensibly be filled by another character.

So, Aunt Trevina got the axe.

And I wrote her an epitaph/obituary/funeral thing. Here it is. Enjoy.

Trevina Copperstone
Here lie the fictitious remains of Trevina Copperstone, beloved, if sometimes annoying aunt, charming socialite, and possibly undercover detective.
Trevina died last Sunday, sacrificed to the second draft in the name of a better story. She is survived by her niece, Lord Gwendolyn Copperstone, who will no longer know of her existence. She is preceded in death by her husband Renfrew Copperstone, whose death happened in the story, and who shall stay in the Realm of Fabrication.
We lay her scenes to rest in the Document of Darlings Killed, and pray that someday they will rise again to find their place in another story.
Rest in peace, Trevina. You will be missed.

And on that happy note, I wish you a lovely night/day/whatever.

That was actually interesting, though. I enjoyed this. If I ever cut a character, I'll have to do this.

    1. Glad you enjoyed! It was fun to write, I must say.

  2. Ohhh, I did this yesterday! I realized there were two characters who had similarish jobs, and that their role in the story would be stronger if they were the same person! It sucks, but makes the story better in the long run!

    1. Sucks indeed, but yes, hopefully the story will improve. Of course, I halfway through my aunt axing enterprise, I found this great bit of conflict between Trevina and my MC, and I lost all my zeal for her axing. *Sigh.*
