Drabble Day is a weekly meme from The Writeaholic's Blog. Click here to get to this week's prompt post.
I have to admit, I was very happy to see that cheese was this week's prompt. I love cheese. Irrationally so. Except for Swiss and blue. I can't bring myself to like those. Anyway, here's my drabble:
Madelyn clomped up the stairs of her apartment
building. Her boyfriend had dumped her,
her family wasn’t speaking to her, and she was close to losing her job. Her
life was not going where she wanted. There
was only one thing that could make her feel better. Cheese.
The first thing she did when she got home was fling open the door of her
lime green refrigerator. Sitting on the
top shelf was a wheel of brie, the queen of cheeses. Madelyn sank into her couch and
took a bite. The creamy goodness calmed
her nerves, and told here everything would be okay.
This is not really any good, and I do admit a bit...well, cheesy. It sounds kinda like a commercial for brie. Oh, well. It was a writing exercise, and I wrote, and that's all that matters.
That is funny! I mean the fact that you don't like blue or Swiss cheese, 'cause I'm exactly the same way.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you're right about this sounding cheesy, which is rather funny too. Of course, you could argue that because the prompt was about cheese, you're doing a two-level thing of sorts. The obvious level is the part about the cheese, and the less obvious is the cheesiness of it all. Yes, this sounds remarkably like a commercial for cheese with an emotional anesthetic. How would brie make everything all right? It can do just about everything but.
Ha! Swiss and blue are insults to the world of cheese. I wonder, horror of horrors, if there's a blue Swiss out there... Okay, wondering is making me sick. That just sounds awful.
DeleteOoh, I like that two-level thing. I didn't mean to make it sound cheesy when I wrote it, but it really fits.
Brie may not make everything all right, but brie with arugula and bacon on top comes close. Three of the best foods in the world all piled together on top of a freshly baked scone. *Sigh* Oh great, now I'm hungry.
The only blue Swiss would be moldy Swiss, which I wouldn't mind seeing more of. Not eating, just seeing.
ReplyDeleteI prefer baked brie, myself.
Oh yes, baked brie is amazing.
